Kirstjen Nielsen’s tenure as head of the Department of Homeland Security may have been brief, but the irreparable harm she has caused in implementing brutal anti-immigrant policies cannot be measured and has left a dark stain on our country’s history. She repeatedly lied to lawmakers and the public about the Trump administration’s draconian family separation policy, for which no one has been held accountable and for which thousands of children and parents have needlessly suffered. Sec. Nielsen should be held accountable for these human rights violations despite her resignation.”
