"It is unconscionable to give in to the President’s demands at the expense of immigrant communities across the country. The current deal as it stands would neither rein in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) nor cut the detention population significantly. It is merely a slap on the wrist, which actually condones ICE’s pattern of overspending and mismanaging tax dollars that led to this situation in the first place. To make matters worse, Democrats are appropriating funds to build a wall that is completely unnecessary and will further militarize our border.

We are deeply alarmed by these concessions coming from the Democratic Party, which for months has been taking a stand against the administration and now has made an about-face. This is the definition of being complicit in the Trump administration’s cruel anti-immigrant policies.

Instead of using this opportunity to support immigrants and hold the administration and federal agencies accountable, Democrats are turning their backs on all of us."
