Freedom for Immigrants Joins #GivingTuesday Campaign

Give the Gift of Freedom This Holiday Season.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA — As we enter the month of November and the time of year associated with family gatherings and end-of-year celebrations, our hearts are with all the families who will remain separated this holiday season due to the U.S. immigration detention system.

Therefore, this month, we are launching an ambitious campaign to raise $50,000 to bond out up to 30 people who are currently locked in immigration detention and connect them to the support they deserve on the outside.

Since the beginning of this year, we have posted 121 bonds totaling $618,000 thanks to support from all who have donated to Freedom for Immigrants.  With your support, we have bonded out people like Nelson* who fled Honduras seeking asylum in the United States. For the last year, he was detained by the U.S. government with other children in the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement.  However, his parents who are undocumented were living in the United States. Repeated requests for his release from his parents were all denied. When a minor turns 18, they are at risk of being transferred to an ICE adult detention facility. On the eve of his 18th birthday, we were able to secure his release with an $11,000 bond and reunite him with his parents in Texas.

Throughout the month of November, Freedom for Immigrants will highlight the amazing work of our volunteers around the country, sharing stories of hope.  But we also will share the difficult stories, and we will walk you through the unjust history of the immigration bond process through regular IMM-Print articles and social media posts.
