An important update from Freedom for Immigrants: Our Chrysalis

En español

what’s a chrysalis period?

The past several years of organizational transitions have helped us look inward, reflect on where we’ve been, and dream about where we want to go.

To complete our organizational transformation, FFI will be in a state of “chrysalis” from January to summer 2024, during which we will pause much of our external and programmatic work. Chrysalis refers to a transitional, sheltered state of being or growth. It’s the stage and protective form that caterpillars take on so they can emerge as free flying butterflies.

As we continue to reimagine our organization from the ground up, the FFI team will turn inward for a season of reflection, regeneration, and preparation. These months will provide us the space to vision and prepare for the next chapter of FFI with intention and care. We look forward to returning with a renewed purpose, theory of change, and strategic plan that will enable us to more meaningfully contribute to the abolition movement.

We greatly appreciate your patience and continued partnership as we complete this important phase of our work, and we look forward to introducing our new mission and vision soon.

FAQS

Will FFI’s detention hotline remain open?

FFI’s National Immigration Detention Hotline will remain open on a reduced operating schedule. Beginning January 1, 2024, the hotline’s modified hours will be: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10am-8pm PT / 1pm-11pm ET.

Hotline volunteers will continue answering calls from inside detention to provide referrals, connect callers to local groups, and document abuse. You can reach FFI’s detention hotline by dialing 9233# from a facility phone.

If we do not answer your call during these hours, it is likely because we are on the phone with another caller. We recommend you try calling throughout the week until you can get through.

FFI’s Outside Hotline will be closed during this period. Additional resources can be found here.

Will FFI’s bond fund continue to accept bond applications?

FFI’s National Immigration Detention Bond Fund will not be accepting referrals from January to summer 2024. Access the National Bail Fund Network’s referral form here.

How do I get in touch with FFI staff during this time?

The FFI office will be closed from January 15 to summer 2024. FFI staff will not be able to respond as usual to messages and inquiries during this time. If your message necessitates an urgent response because it is a true emergency, please note “Emergency” in the subject line of your email.
